Data Terminators' hard drive shredder. The shredder is
located
in a van together with a generator - fully self contained. However in
all honesty, it is better for all concerned and the environment if we
can make use of your electricity. The choice is yours

The shredder is fed hard drives such as these

...and shreds them into little pieces like this:-

The speed of shredding depends on the make of hard drive.
IBM and Seagate drives take just under 3minutes per drive (20-25 per
hour).
Maxtor and W/Digital take about 90 seconds per drive (35-40 per hour).
TAPES...........we also shred data cartridges

Examples of the type* of tapes we shred are:-
DLT Tape IV Cartridges
Super DLT tapes
LTO tapes
IBM 3494/3590 tapes
Travan tapes
4mm Digital Data Storage Tape mini cartridge 81mm x 60mm x 14m
Sony SDX2-50C data tapes 95mm x 62mm x 15mm
3M DC600A data cartridge tapes 151mm x 101mm x 17mm
HP C7972A 400GB tapes 105mm x 100mm x 21mm
We can usually shred one standard DLT tape in approximately 60seconds
*Our machinery has a size restriction which may prevent
certain types of large tapes from being acceptable. We cannot shred the
old type of reeled tapes such as the 10.5" IBM magnetic tapes
The thickest item we can accept is 25mm and widest is 110mm.
This size restriction tends to rule out some very old SCSI hard
drives which are almost twice as thick as the standard hard drive
(which are around 22mm-24mm thick). The thicker old drives
haven't been made for over a decade - if you have a few of these
drives, amongst many standard drives, we can handle them
simultaneously with shredding the normal drives, but it is
a time consuming process and we can only shred a limited number at any
one time (please advise before-hand). Normally we do not charge extra.
INCINERATION OF DIGITAL TAPES
Shredded data tape waste is difficult to recycle and as a consequence
it is sent to land fill. However, for some this is not a satisfactory
outcome. For an extra fee we can arrange for the waste to be
incinerated.
INCINERATION OF MICROFICHE FILM
Unless the shred size is very small, shredded microfiche film is still
very easily readable. Such waste usually ends up in landfill which
isn't a good idea. We can arrange to have your microfiche film
incinerated. To be doubly sure, the film can be shredded on site
and then incinerated in an approved incineration facility.
We do not shred paper, floppy discs or optical discs.
